Description:
This sculpture started as objects found by the beach. When I saw the way the shells (actually, an exemplary bivalve mussel) were formed, I felt a duty to display them as the wings of a guardian angel. My wife and daughter found the heart shaped rock which became the solid foundation of love on which to build a dream. The wand is made of wood from our land and represents the artist within the work, standing in just the right place to put it all together.
The balloon is reminiscent of a summer day, and of temporality in general: the temporary nature of art, and of the pandemic. It’s a kind look at a mask, a caution against them ending up on our beaches, and a symbol of hope.
